This stunning paperweight was designed by Alastair MacIntosh and produced by Caithness Glass in 1998. The piece stands approximately 3 ¾ inches tall and is just under 3 inches in diameter. The design features a central, cream-colored feather-like form that rises elegantly from a deep amethyst-colored base. Surrounding this central form is a ring of small bubbles, adding an extra touch of detail and depth to the composition. Below the central design, a mottled orange section is topped with a disc of fine bubbles, adding a fiery contrast to the cooler amethyst tones.
The paperweight has been skillfully faceted to create a pointed top, enhancing the light refraction and giving the piece a jewel-like appearance. The base of the weight is etched with the inscription: "Caithness Jalal Scotland," along with its limited-edition number, "254/350."
This piece comes with a plastic display stand and includes a description card that highlights its historical inspiration. The card reads, "Of all the enemies that Genghis faced, only Jalal-Ad-Din won his admiration." This adds a fascinating narrative layer to the paperweight, drawing from historical events to complement its artistic design.
